Disputing parties can often achieve better results and greater satisfaction from mediation than adversarial proceedings. I have acted as sole mediator and co-mediator in a range of commercial disputes and professional trainings involving private parties, small businesses, and multinational corporations.
I am a proactive process manager. Before each mediation, I speak with counsel to determine their preferences about process and the nature of any evaluation of their claims. I encourage the parties to join this conversation.
I tailor the process to the dispute and revise as the mediation advances. Where global settlement is not possible on the day of the mediation, I will continue to work with willing parties to restart negotiations.
I am sensitive to cultural differences. Raised in the United States, I have spent most of my adult life in Asia and Europe. Nearly all of my clients, colleagues, managers, and students have been non-American, non-native English speakers.
I am comfortable working with both experienced users of mediation and parties with no mediation experience. For over ten years, I have trained law students, attorneys, and business managers in dispute management techniques including mediation.
